Dispensary

The Institution runs a charitable Homoeopathy Dispensary attended by two visiting doctors every week. Free diagnosis and medicines are available to students as well as women and children from the neighbourhood.

The hostel has a sick room and a doctor on call for medical emergencies. First Aid facilities are readily available both in the College and in the Hostel.

Medical Facilities

Medical assistance to students is given at three levels

  1. Through regular health awareness and check-up camps:
    Medical checkup and blood group identification for all first year students is conducted at the beginning of every academic year. Breast cancer and Thalassemia awareness and detection programmes are held annually too. The Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Matri Bhavan, a premier city hospital for women, collaborates with the College in organizing these camps. 
  2. Through Health Card for students entitling them to free or highly subsidized medical facilities at Matri Bhavan:
    For a payment of Rs. 200 per year, each student is provided with a Health Card with which she can avail of:
    • Free OPD treatments (except medicine).
    • Free pathological investigations.
    • Free radiological investigations.
    • 50% discount on total billing for indoor admission, except medicines.
       
  3. The Institution also runs a charitable Homoeopathy Dispensary attended by two visiting doctors every week.
     
  4. Attention is also paid to the mental well-being of the students. Informal counselling from teachers and mentors is augmented by professional counselling whenever needed

Counselling Facilities

  1. Faculty members are available to students for academic and personal counselling.
  2. Since 2009, the college has been organising periodic counselling for students (individually and collectively) in collaboration with the Centre for Counselling Services and Studies in Self-Development, Jadavpur University.

Remedial Teaching

Remedial coaching has been organised with UGC assistance since November 2010, for Honours and General students, in English, Bengali, Sanskrit, Education, History, Economics, Political Science, Philosophy and Journalism

Anti Ragging Cell

The campus of Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyabhavan is a Ragging Free Campus. Effective measures are taken by the Management to discourage ragging. Moreover, the Anti-Ragging Cell of the college is vigilant all the time. As a proactive measure, a student-led campaign of awareness against ragging is initiated at the beginning of each academic year. Through this campaign the student-volunteers sensitize the senior students about the ill effects & consequences of ragging. These volunteers also address the freshers and advise them to be alert, aware and report any incidents of ragging in the campus.

Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell and Internal Complaints Committee

The College has an Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell and an Internal Complaints Committee following UGC directives.

The Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell works towards preparing a detailed plan of actions, both short and long term, which include developing guidelines and norms for a policy against sexual harassment; procedures for combating sexual harassment both within and outside the College premises and working out details for the implementation of the policy.

The Internal Complaints Committee will address specific cases of sexual harassment at workplace.
 

Internal Complaints Committee

The college has reconstituted the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in November 2016 on the basis of the recent UGC (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of sexual harassment of women employees and students in higher educational institutions) Regulations, 2015, published in the Gazette of India,New Delhi, Monday, May 2, 2016. The tasks of this committee are to:

  • look into all kinds of gender based sexual harassment cases for their rapid redressal
  • encourage a gender-friendly atmosphere for both staff and the students
  • organize gender sensitization awareness programmes for all stakeholders in tandem with Women's Development Cell

Guidelines :

  1. Zero tolerance towards sexual harassments
  2. To carry out gender sensitization against sexual harassment, by explaining what is sexual harassment, physical, verbal, or using electronic media in collaboration with Women's Development Cell .
  3. To ensure the right to safe campus and workplace; that safety of workplace/campus means providing normal atmosphere, rather than degenerating into securitization, nor curtailing the freedom of movement of employees or students.
  4. To explain the broadened meaning of workplace/campus under the Act of 2013 and the Saksham Guidelines
  5. Taking into account that vulnerable groups may be particularly prone to harassment - and to look after their special needs - based on class, caste, sexual orientation, and disability.
  6. To provide assistance if an employee or a student chooses to file a complaint with the police
  7. To provide mechanisms of dispute redressal and dialogue through just and fair conciliation without undermining complainant's rights
  8. To minimize the need for purely punitive approaches
  9. To enable a complainant to make a formal complaint where the complainant so wishes, and to act in accordance with the Act of 2013 and the UGC guidelines of 2015 to ensure that complaint and inquiry are carried out fairly and within the time set out by law.
  10. To protect the safety of complainant and any witnesses by not divulging identities
  11. To ensure that victims or witnesses are not threatened or penalised for making complaints
  12. To ensure that the provisions of the Act are not misused by frivolous complaints

The RKSM Vivekananda Vidyabhavan authorities are committed, by their adherence to the Act and the Regulations, to provide all necessary facilities to the ICC to conduct its inquiries within time and with required privacy. They are also committed to providing a zero tolerance workplace/campus.

Private Donations to the Institution The Institution receives donations from a host of well-wishers (including past and present teachers and alumni) who believe in the principles and values of the College. The donors either provide a lump sum to be invested as Fixed Deposits, or contribute annually. The College utilizes the interest of the FDs, and the annual donations to support students as per their needs.

Apart from these, the Institution extends financial and other kinds of assistance from its own resources to students facing extreme financial and familial/circumstantial crisis.
